BAND CONTEST.
GUARANTEES OBTAINED FOR PALMERSTON. The visiting Bands to "YVanganui are beginning to collect. Blenheim Garrison and Petone Citizens went through ■ to-day, and Wellington Tramways go through on Monday. The contest opens on Monday night, and should bring considerable grist to Wanganui's mills. It is proposed to hold the next contest in Palmerston. The first contest held here resulted in a. profit of between £150 and £200, and the second, which lasted the full week, besides keeping so many people in town and giving business such a fillip, showed a surplus also, so that guarantors need have no fear of being called upon. Messrs Holben a_nd Dunk have been very successful with their .canvass in connection with the proposal to hold the next contest here, and already have £445 guaranteed. It is expected the remainder of the £500 will be easily obtained from the licensed victuallers.
