FIRE IN THE SQUARE.
GOOD WORK BY THE BRIGADE.
A fire broke out in the workroom of Mr A. V. Burnard's dental establishment in King's Chambers last evening, between seven and eight o'clock. Luckily the Brigade were soon on the spot in fact they were there before the bell rang, and, although the flames had got into the roof and were threatening to do considerable damage, the fire was got under 'control, and with the exception of tho workroom and dental parlour all the rest of the building was practically unharmed, and the damage will not amount to more than £80 or £100. It would appear that the cause of vi e outbreak was a lighted gas jet on the eastern wall of the building, and it did not take long for the flames to find their way through the thin plaster into -he roof. The Brigade made, a very artistic job of extinguishing.. the flames. They might .easily have flooded the place, and ruined the stocks of Messrs Tydeman and O'Connor, A. E. Clausen, and possibly A. J. Mahon and Co., but tho f.ict that these pi ace.s are quite unharmed shows how well the operations were controlled. Under Supt. Warner the men worked briskly and with much discrimination, and deserve every credit for their workmanlike job. The insurance on tho building v.a = £2000, and on Mr Burnard's stock niid personal effects £550, both in the Alliance.
