Mr James Loekington. a. well-known Katikati settler, mot with a painful accident recently when working a mowing machine. He was approaching one of his team, a young and .-.pinied animal, on the- «dc'on which the knives of the machine were exposed, and the horse pluncinu- forward, he was thrown on his hands and face, wilh one of the keonedrrd knives buried in the calf of his leg. Fortunately th? hordes obeyed a sharp cry of "Who;' !" from Mr Lockington a:> he fell: bui net before lie hart been dragged olong a few feet, the blade inilicting a deep and ugly wound.
(Per Peess Association.) * MASTERTOX, Feb. 8. An inquest was held on the body of a •well-known Maori fun nor named .Karanawa. Tehuki. who was found dead at Stronvar, near Master! on. on Sunday. The evidence showed the deceased had probably fallen from his horse and was kicked on the chest, causing death. He. was ridinc a half broken horse. A verdict of accidental death was returned.
