KAIRANGA COUNTY COUNCIL.

The ordinary meeting of the Kairauya County Council was held yesterday. There wore present —Crs. Voss (chairman), J3:'\ - ant, Ivloodie, Batchelar, ' Anderson, O'Loughiin, Willsher. Mayo, and Collis. CORRESPONDENCE. From G. Knight stating that the fence on iSkermaii's road had not been removed and metalling had not been done. — Fence to be removed within seven days, a motion that it be removed to-morrow being lost on the casting vote of tho chairman. From J. P. Innes, counsel for the Council, stating that the case of the Napier road culvert had been heard and judgment reserved.—Left with tho chairman and the inspector to take further steps if necessary.

From J. F. Hewitt drawing attention to the state of the Kahuterawa road and asking that it be repaired.—Tho Inspector and Cγ. Batchelar to report to next, meeting. From the Borough Council stating that, tin; trough at Standen's Hill was leaking, and asking that it be reinstated in concrete. —The Inspector to attend to it. From C. J. Monro asking that the road near his house bo attended to. it being in a dangerous state. —To be inquired into.

From 1.1. T. Flygcr stating he had wld his property and. asking that the £25 promised for stop-bank be paid tho present owners. Messrs I bio- arid Hooker. —It was decided to inform Mr Flyger that when tho work is carried out in iu-corrlance with the Council's instruction-; rile money will be paid. From D. Prouse asking that culvert be put. in opposito the new Longburnschool and tho footpath tarred and sanded. —It was decided to put in culvert, and to suggest that property-owners contribute £1 for £1 for tarring and sanding, a>: is done in the borough. From A. J. Toxwiird' stating that Mr Riddiford was liable for the rates for winch he had applied ior a. refund. — Hold over. From li. \Y. 'White and others asking that tho drain on the. Aorangi road be removed, and agreeing to contribute £13 to the cost.-—lr. was decided to give the £50 decided on last year when the settlers had handed in their contribution. From YV. 1. Lovelock. FitzherberfEast, asking Council for permission to con.-l.ruct drains in front of his property. — Permission given. INSPECTOR'S REPORT.

Mr T. Bast in (inspector) reported as follows: — Firzherbert Riding: Tho staff has bee:, engaged on Pahiatua road. Old Road East. Kendall's road. Linton and Main road; building at Linton. also repairs to culvert.-. Re Craw's road. Smith lias completed his contract metalling on Allison's and C'leveley's Line. Mr Lane has also started his contract near Purr's road, and will be finished in about a week. The- bridge at McLeaveyV, Napier load, will require new decking, a new concrete abutment is to be put on this bridge, and when this is done tho state of the stringers can bo ascertained. We will then see if it is worth a- new deck. .As soon as the bridge at Bunnythorpe is completed I propose to build the culverts at Murray's and Kelvin Grove, also abutment at Napier road. Taonui Riding: The staff has been employed principally spreading nioialoii Hamilton's Line and Jackeytown road, carting , metal for concrete culvert , and filling in same and removing old bridge. The culvert on Walker's road will be completed to-day, excepting the plastering arid metalling. Tho cost of the culvert is £68. Owing to the difficult foundation it took more labour and cement than was anticipated. The culvert has a clear waterway of ten feet by six feet, and nintoen feet six inches over all. Mr Buick has about completed his contract for formation of road at Jackeytown. Mr Jensen is also proceeding with his contract. No. 1 line. Re Rangiiikoi and (.'amoron's Lines repairs: Cameron's line and Kaihiwi road

will take 250 yards; Rangitikei line. 600 yards. If broken stone and blinding are put on it would cost £75. li. would pay to adopt the latter plan. GENERAL. Cr. Moody reported on the condition of Scott's road, and considered it should be repaired immediately. The ruts were bad. He moved that the metal at present waiting on the road be spread, and the road put in repair. The Inspector considered it a big order. The motion was carried. It was decided to take legal proceedings against the occupiers of the Awapuni reserve; for rates and rent owing. The Inspector reported that tiireo contracts in the Taonui Riding were not very satisfactorily done, and it was decided not to pay out on them till the work had been inspected. Cameron's lino came under discussion, (Jr. Mayo complaining of its unsatisfactory condition. C'r. Wilsher suggested that it would be a good idea to put the road scraper over some of the roads and gather the metal into the centre. He would like to see it done in James's line. The matter of the roads mentioned was left with the- members for the riding, Crs. Anderson, Mayo, and Wilsher.

On Or. Wilshcr's motion it was decided to metal Rangitikoi line with broken metal, as suggested by the Inspector. It was decided that Iho Inspector draw up conditions and specifications for making- Craw's road, Linton, and that tho bridge and culvert be erected by the Council.
