TOKOMARU.

Tuesday. A very quiet wedding took place at the Shannon Registry Office on January 31st. the contructiiig parties being Mr A. R. McGregor (our local builder) and Miss M. (.'iii-J. of Auckland. Their many friends will join me in wishing them happiness and prosperity in the future. Our local railway porter in charge is to be i rr.n.sferred at an early date, but his destination is so far unknown. His departure will be regretted, as Mr Warner has taken a great interest in the place, and is well liked by the settlers. A fire broke out early on Friday morning- in the Temukanui swamp, and had a good hold before the men could reach the scene. After battling for about an hour it was got under with a loss of about xO acres of good flax The origin is a mystery. A meeting of the School Committee was held last night. It was decided to hold the annual picnic on Friday, the 18th inst. I have been shown a fine sample, of locally grown rape which would take some beating. There are two crops hero that are said to be the finest on this coast, which speaks well for the cropping qualities of Tokomaru soil. A local farmer has found a splendid fodder (Indian corn plants) for cow feeding, and one which others would do well to try. The creamery returns show a, great increase in the amount of milk, together with a good test, which is a thing to be taken into consideration. The splendid rain we had a few days ago has given the place a fresh green anponranee, and has also been the means of increasing the milk supply.
