By noon tho parents, Irk'iids and scholars had mustered in lull force to do justice to tho appetising dainties provided by the ladies, and by way of diversion till the proverbial billy boiled indulged in games. After luncheon races were run, and to see the enthusiasm, in spite of tho very hot day, with which the youngsters contested the various events, recalled one's youthful da\s. The raced being over and the tovs being duly admired and compared, the great event of the day, the distribution of prizes, took place. Mr G. Stratton (chairman), in the unavoidable absence of Mr G. H. Bennett, in a. neat little speech congratulated the children on their year's work, and the splendid prizes they were about to receive, and thanking tho public for their attendance and the very liberal way in which they had subscribed to tho fund, called for three cheers for the ladies, for Mr M. Voss, in whose plantation the gathering was held, for Mr Corley. who had been idefatigable in his efforts to make the picnic a success, and the teacher, Mr R. Thornton-Best, then proceeded to present the prizes. Appended is a list of the prize-winners in the various standards, each of tho other pupils receiving a reward book: — Standard Vl.—Ernestine De Cleene. Games were again the order of the day until tea timo. when all were again ready to do full justice to tho many good things provided by the ladies. Grop.t excitement then centred in the ladies' races, and the duties of handicapper and starter wore ably filled by Messrs Mitchell and D.. Rowlands, junr., tho number of starters making this no easy maiter. The prizes for the spinster's race (kindly donated by Mr Corley) were won by Miss Minnie Voss, with Miss Farmer a ' close second, and the married ladles' race, which also called out a very large field. wa.s won by Mrs Thornton-Best. followed by Mcsdamcs McDonald and McCullv. At 8.30 p.m.. ns daylight waned in the west, the Leathering dispersed after singing "Auld Lang Syne." each and all boine thoroughly satisfied with the day's enjoyment.
