■ Mr Gallagher, of Porangahau, Hawke's Bay, has taken over the Albion Hotel from Mr T. Sowm. The latter intends to make an extensive tour of both the North and South Islands before settling down.

Mr J. Roach has been ordered three months' holiday by the doctor. He left last week for the South Island. His many friends in this district trust that he will return greatly benefited for his trip.

No tender has been accepted for tho formation of footpaths in the Shannon Cemetery. It will possibly drag on for another winter before anything is done in this matter.

Mr L. Jenkins has kindly promised a B.S.A. aperture sight to the Rifle Club as a prize to be won twice in succession or three times at intervals. The first of the Rifle Clubs shoots for the club's prizes took place on Saturday. On Thursday, Constable Esson brought a man named Charles Nicol before Mr J. R. Stansell,' J.P., on the charge of being drunk and in charge of a horse. He was fined 20s.

The Presbyterian Ladies,' Guild 'have decided to postpone the Horticultural Show this season. This is much regretted, as there was a promise of a very good display this season. The Shannon residents will be pleased to know that they are likely to hear something definite about our brass band. Some months have passed now, and the band, to all intents and purposes, has been dead. It is to be hoped that if it is not put on a fresh footing that the trustees will call in the instruments.
