FAST TIMES AT WELLINGTON

(Per Pbess Association.) WELLINGTON, Feb. 6.

The Wellington Provincial* Amateur Athletic Championships held on Saturday produced, some remarkable performances.

Woodger won the hundred yards in 10 seconds "dead, and tho 220 yards in 22 2-5 seconds —less than the' New Zealand record time. Woodger's performance will in all probability be submitted to tho Council 1 to be passed as a new record.

T. B. Hegger ran away with the mile in 4min 29 4-ssec.

The three miles event went to H. T. Thompson, holder of the Australasian record over the Marathon distance, in 15min 53 3-ssec.

A sum of £140 was taken at the gates, enabling tho Wellington centre to be strongly represented at Auckland on the 26th at the New Zealand championships. The feeling is strong hero that Wellington will have no great difficulty in wresting the Provincial Premiership Shield from Canterbury, the present holders.
