STATE-OWNED CABLE.
(By Electric Telegraph—Copyrights (Per Press Association.) MELBOURNE, Feb. 3. AaVices have been received, that the Pacific Cable Board has secured -the control, from the Canadian Pacific Railway Company, of. the telegraph line from Montreal to Bamfield. The negotiations which have brought about this result were necessitated by frequent failures of the Canadian land lines. The board has secured a lease of the line for five years at an annual rental of 55,000 dollars (£11,000). Negotiations for a State-owned cable across the Atlantic are not yet completed, but before long, it is anticipated, this will be accomplished, completing a State-controlled through line from Queensland to London.
