FIRES.
(Peb Pbess Association.) TIMARU, March 14. About 1 a.m. to-day a stack of sawn timber in the yard of the Westland Timber Co. in an angle formed by the sawmill and engine rooms, was found to be on fire. The fire had a good hold when the brigade arrived, and it took a full hour to master it. Their efforts were mainly directed to confining the fire to the stack and to saving the building, and in this the brigade was successful. ' ASHBURTON, March 15. A five-roomed ,-house. in Cambridge Street, Hametead, owned by l>. MeIntosh and for some time occupied by W. R. Shattock, was, with part of its contents, completely destroyed by fire at 3.30 this morning. Shattock was about to leave the house, and had some furniture removed. The origin of the fire is unknown, the house being unoccupied at the time. Insuranceshouse £175 in the London and Lancashire, furniture £100 in the North Queensland. _
