The Cretan Rebellion.

After the insurgents had evacuated Alsipopoula (Crete) to join the country bands, Colonel Urbanovitch occupied the place and demanded £8000 blood money for the death of the Russian soldiers.
The inhabitants declined to pay on the ground that they were not responsillefor the insurgents' acts. The colonel thereupon seized and sold some draft animals and threstened to burn the village if he were attacked. There is. great indignation in Canea.
