Germany's Little War.

(Per Press Association. (Received August 23, at 8.20 a.m.) BERLIN, August 22. Germany is sending 150 marines, several quick-firers, and two small cruisers to West Africa.

CAPETOWN, Aug. 22. The British authorities in Bechuanaland disarmed Maharero and the other captains and 750 Hereros.

BERLIN, August 22. General Lindequist's appointment is equivalent to General yon Trotha's supercession.

The mortality amongst the Hereros' prisoners at the Swakowmund concentration camp during February, March and April equalled 720 per thousand per annum. ■

[This German colonial war has been in progress for nearly two years. The rising commenced with the Hereros in January, 1904, and the Hereros were routed, apparently finally, in August. But in October the trouble, which had been confined to the north, became evident also in the south, where the Hottentots and "Witboois indentified themselves with the Herero cause. The year's fighting cost the Germans six or seven millions sterling, and probably by now the expenditure exceeds ten millions. General yon Trotha's recall is due to the fact that military measures had not been successful with the rebels, and he tried his hand at conciliation. First of all he threatened the natives of J^amaqualand with extermination unless they abandoned their hostile movement forthwith. He also offered £250 for the capture or shooting of one of the Herer»s chiefs. These tactics created great imdignation in Germany.]
