INVEBCABGILL, October 21. George Barratt, whose wife and child perished in the fire which destroyed his home this morning at Mabel, was a recent arrival from Canterbury. Barratt himself was severely scorched in an attempt to rescue his wife, whose room was like a furnace when he tried to enter it. A gusty north wind at the time may have blown some hangings on te a light. The unfortunate man reached a house some miles away clad in his pyjamas and an old coat.
