Field-Marshal Oyama's Report

Russians Renew the Attack.

(Received Oct. 20, at 7.19 a.m.)

LONDON, October 19.

Field-Marshal Oyama reports:—A regiment of infantry attacked part of Kuroki's army at Shangpinatzu and Taichaku on Sunday but were routed by a counter attack. They retreated north. There is no change as regards pur right and centre armies. Yomada's detachment was sent to help part of Oku's army, attacking the enemy northwards of Shahopo. The drove off the enemy's right wing and captured two guns, and retired in the darkness to their original position. Meanwhile a division, by a vigorous advance, enveloped the detachment, and after a severe hand-to-hand fight the detachment drove off the enemy in front but was/unable to. resist both flanks and cut. its way out, abandoning nine field puns and five mountain guns. As most of the men and horses were killed the casualties were 1000. The enemy, on the night of the 17th, made two fierce counter attacks against Oku's right and counter attacks on a smaller scale in the direction'of Nodzu and Kuroki. The enemy were repulsed entirely, leaving a great number of dead. The enemy in front of the Hunho. was enormously reinforced, .especially in front of Nodzu. A mixed brigade faces Oku's left .flank detachment.
