RUSSIA AND JAPAN.

. A telegram from Harbin states that the Russians, on Monday night, advanced and expelled the Japanese from; six positions, capturing six field pieces. The Japanese made a fresh stand in a strong position along a range of hills. The Russians, oh Tuesday, stormed itj capturing 16 field pieces and quick-firers.
The fight continues.

Lord Lansdpwne, Minister for Foreign Affairs, replying to the Ocean Steamship Company, said that negotiations with Russia are still proceeding. They had only resulted heretofore in the acknowledgment that rice and provisions were conditionally contraband..,' He was unable to say whether a vessel, carrying raw cotton, locomotives, tyres, fishplates, to Yokohama would be immune from capture. The firm must consider whether or not they think it well to incur the risk.
