There isan unusual mortality amongst lambs in the yjieiliekl district. Mr H. C. Wilkie. the Government veterinary surgeon; is exported from Dunedin this evening to enqui e into the matter. About 2501> dozen epgs have been received or will be received before the end of- the week to be. graded and stored m the Goverunvnt cool st>re for export.

The Marine Department states that the missing oil launch referred to in a telegram from Christchurch yesterday, is the auxiliary schooner Toroa, commanded by Captain Jarman. She was bound from Westrort to Wniiqanuiand has not. been heard of since she left tho West Coast.
George Bowron, a member of th- firm of Bowron Bros, was lined £2 this morning for failing to furnish a return under the Income and Aseesment Ace.
