FIRE ON A STEAMER

• Adelaide, July 27. A lire occurred on the steamer Bal--1 lying at the wharf. There are 0000 tons of Java sugar aboard. The break out commeuced in the hold amidships where a thousand tons of sugar were Btored. Some 250 ton's were de*. troyed while, probably a-largo quantity m the lower nold. is damaged. The water, flames, and boiling sugar, which spread in' all directions, seriously damaged the captain's cabin, saloon, store rooms aud fittings.
