NORTH ISLAND BACON COMPANY.

At the invitation of the Directors of the North Island Co-operative Bacon Curing Company,:the visiting delegates to the. National Dairy Association and Butter and Cheese-makers' Conference proceeded by the midday train yesterday to the Company's works at Woodville. Included among the guests were MiRitchie, Secretary of Agriculture, Mr Kirk, Government Etoniologist, the members of tho Dairy Staff and the several other prominent visitors to Palmerston at the present time." On arrival at the works the party were met by Mr Anderson, Managing Director, and Mr. Clarke. Secretary of the Company. So that the modus operandi adopted at the factory could be witnessed by the visitors killing operations were postponed from the previous day and immediately on arrival the work of slaughter was commenced. From thence until the animals were ready for cutting up, the work was watched w'th the greatest interest by the spectators, many of whom are. directly interested in the industry, and therefore view the proceedings with, more than ordinary interest:: An adjournment was then made to one of the large rooms where luncheon was served,- the viands representing the whole of the products of the Company. The chair was occupied by Mr Carl Anderson,,Chairman of Directors. Previous to leaving the room the Chairman expressed'tlie pleasure the Directors experienced in seeing so many guests present and trusted that what they had noted during their tour of the works had repaid the visitors for their kind acceptance of the invitation extended to them. Mr J. Holmes, on behalf of the visitors, acknowledged the kindly sentiment expressed by Mi- Anderson and, proceeding, made eulogistic reference to theenterpnse displayed by the Company, their complete plant and commodious buildings and the excellent quality of the products of the factory. He congratulated the Directors on the evident success attending their efforts and trusted that it would be at all times commensurate with the rapid expansion of the industry. A resolution embodying the thanks of the visitors was carried by acclamation. A move was then made for the train, which by arrangement with the railway authorities conveyed the visitors to and from the; works, and! Palmerston was reached at 4.15 p.m., after an exceedingly . enjoyable afternoon,. had ' been spent.
