BOWLING.

AWAHOU FEATHERS MATCH.

Yesterday afternoon the first challenge match of the season for the Awaliou Feathers was played between a Levin rink skipped by Langelan and Mattar’s rink.

The game was a very interesting one, and resolved itself into the closest of finishes, the final scores being even —17 all —which allowed the holders to retain the trophies.

The visitors drew “first blood” with a single, to which the holders replied on the second end with a brace. For the next three heads Foxton’s account remained at 2 while their opponents notched a 2, a single and another 2 to make the score G —2. Oil the fifth head Mattar measured in 5, to which he added two singles and a two, the figures on the ninth being 11 '6 in his favour. Levin then made a more regular showing, and by the sixteenth head the scores were 13 —12 in favour of Foxton. The challengers then added a. 2 and a three consecutively, their score being by this time 15, hut Mattar added a two next, to even the score on the eighteenth head. The pegging was close for this period of the game, and the holders were somewhat relieved to lay a couple of singles on the next two ends. Levin wanted three points to win on the final head, and looked veiy much like getting them even up till the Foxton skip was ready to play his last bowl. Playing a bit narrow, Mattar’s final shot was not an inspiring one, but managed to rub into third place, and Langelan being equal to the occasion the flush was a draw. The rinks were:—Foxton: Thomas, A. Walls, D. Christie, Mattar (s) 17; Levin: Hough, Powell, Capper, Langelan (s) 17.

HAYDOCK PINS. , A further two games for the Havdoek Pins were played yesterday. The first, match was between the holders —Francis and Heppner —and Mail’s and Thomson, the challengers gaining the trophies after an evenly contested game, the scores being Thomson 18, Heppner 14.

The holders then played Thomas and Roore, the result being a win for Roore by a margin of 26 points to 15.

The next challenge in order is by J. Christie and D. Christie (s).
