PRESBYTERIAN LADIES SOCIAL GUILD.

The monthly social afternoon of the Presbyterian Ladies Social Guild was held at the residence of Mrs D. Brooks, Purcell Street, on Tuesday. The weather was ideal and the afternoon was spent outdoors iu the beautiful garden and grounds. The hostesses were Mesdames Brooks, Heath, H. Reid and G. Walls, and there was an attendance of forty-five members and friends of the Guild.

Mrs Barron (President) presided. A most interesting! competition (jumbled names of Cinema artists) was won by Miss Jean Stevenson. A putting competition was keenly contested and eventually won by Mrs No c-lkles, while a spoon and ball relay race caused great fun and was won by Mrs Popple.

A delicious afternoon tea was dispensed by the hostesses, assisted by Mrs F. Procter and Miss Chrissie Heath.

A beautiful bouquet of flowers, made and donated by Mrs F. Procter, on behalf of the Guild, was presented to Mrs Stevenson by Mrs •J. Ross. Bouquets were also presented to the Misses Stevenson by Mrs D. Brooks.

The President, Mrs Barron, in a neat speech, expressed the keen regret of all the members at the approaching departure from Foxton of Mrs Stevenson and her daughters and asked Mrs Stevenson to accept a handsome jb-ronge fruit dish as a token of the love and esteem in which she is held by the Guild members.. Mrs Stevenson feelingly responded after which all joined in singing “For She’s a Jolly Good Fellow.” Before dispensing, Mrs Barron moved a vote of thanks to the hostesses for the most enjoyable afternoon they had provided.

Mrs M. E. Perreau kindly offered the use of her grounds-- for the garden party in aid of church funds to lie held on Tuesday, 4th December.
