N.Z. CUP WON BY OUTSIDER
The biggest surprise in the N.Z. Cup, at Christchurch on Saturday, since Ardenvohr in 1916 and Star Rose in 1906, eventuated with the win of Steeton in the Cup. She led all the way.
“The worst Cup in history,” was the summing up of one experienced racegoer after Steeton’s two-inile all-the-way win. The performance of the winner and the judicious tactics of ' the rider, together with the ranlki failure of the favourites, were the outstanding features of the New Zealand Cup of 1934.
Air F. S. Easton’s Fairfax ran second in the Avondale Stakes at Auckland on Saturday.
