THE DUTCH AND AUCTION SALE.
Yesterday the “Dutch and Auction Sale." advertised in these columns last week, was held in the Town Hall supper-room and attracted a good attendance of local residents. The auctioneer did not find it hard to mnlkte sales, and at the (‘lid of the day expressed himself well satisfied with the business done. “Foxton is no worse off than any other town of its size that we have visited," he informed our representative, “and better than a good many —and the people here to-day were the lies! class of people f have had the pleasure ot auctioning before.” Mean that what it may. (he fact remains that the money (lowed treelv from the pockets ot <bo “purchasers" who were present yesterday. to whom the auctioneer so freely alluded .taring the course of his sale patter, and whom he "treated" from time to time with an assortment of free goods. One man spent somewhere in the vicinity of fifty pounds with the visitors and seemed quite well
I satisfied with his purohasos —they i comprised a tea sot, canteen of j <-iif lovy, leal hot’ coat, etc, Good prices wo tv received for most of the articles offered and the sale only wont to show that there is money in Foxton—for some thing's :tuyhoW“-!Unl that it pays to advertise.
