CARS STUCK IN MUD.
INCIDENT AT SEASIDE,
But for the timely arrival of a lady and her son with levers and planks, two cars which became stuck in the mud near the jetty at Manawatu Heads on Sunday evening, might have been seriously damaged by the incoming tide. The two cars became bogged in the treacherous mud when proceeding round the jetty point and digging operations only tended to maf<e the position worse. The tide was mnking_steadi]y and it looked as if the vehicles would have to be abandoned when a lady and her son arrived with levers and planks and, wilh the assistance of beach residents, succeeded in lifting the rear wheels of one car on to the wood as the tide commenced washing around them. Tire ear was then able to proceed under its own powei. The tide had just reached the second car as it was backed away after receiving similar assistance.
