KINGSFORD SMITH TO FLY THE PACIFIC.
HOPES TO REACH U.S. IN FOUR TO FIVE DAYS. Sydney, October 5. iSooner than expected Sir Charles Kingsford Smith disclosed today that he intends flying the Pacific to the United States. He Avill take off from Brisbane on the first hop to SuA'a about October 20tli. Captain P. G. Taylor Avill be the co-pilot and naA'igator. “Smithy” hopes to reach America, 7312 miles, in four to five days. The longest hop Avill be from Suva to Honolulu, 3144 miles. The motive of the flight is to justify the faith of his backers and Avell-wishers and the necessity to return the machine to America for disposal. An extra tank is being fitted to the monoplane, the Lady Southern Cross, making the flying range 4000 miles.
