RUSSIAN CHILD FUND.

Contributions in response to the appeal made hv the Red Cross Society for fluids to pay passage and other expenses in order to bring a child from Russia to its parents in New Zealand have now reached almost £9O, and lists circulated among the banks and other commercial houses are beginning- to come in.

In forwarding a subscription of 13s the children at the Parewanui School wrote as follows: —“The children of Parawanui School are deeply sympathetic towards your society’s appeal on behalf of the little isolated Russian girl, and it has been our desire to do something material in her aid. With every good wish for her future happiness we take pleasure in forwarding the accompanying cheque.” The spirit of self-sacrifice on the part of children is further shown in this appeal by the following letter from the Sunday school children of Waituna West: —“The Waitima Sunday school children are interested in the case of the younggirl you are endeavouring to assist with passage money, etc., to enable her to leave Russia and join her parents here. Enclosed please find postal note for 10s. The children have decided to forgo prizes tips year and send the, money in aid of the fund.” The following cablegram has been received by the secretary of the Red Cross Society from the League of Red Cross Societies, Paris: —“Visa for Galina granted. Third-class passage YokohamaWellington, thirty-one English pounds.” This will indicate that preparations are nearly completed, and it should not be long before the child is restored to her parents in Foxton.

Further subscriptions will be gratefully acknowledged' if remitted to the secretary, Red Cross Society, 63 Dixon Street, Wellington. Further donations of 10/- and 5/- have been received from the combined Presbyterian and Methodist Bible Classes and A Friend respectively, towards the above fund.
