OBITUARY.

AIRS M. J. HONORE. Airs Alarie Jacobine Honore, relict of the late Abraham Honore, who passed away at her residence, Palmerston North, at the advanced age of 79 years was one of the pioneer settlers of the Afanawatu.

As a young woman, Airs Honore came to New Zealand in company with the late Mr Ditley Monrad and his family from North Denmark. Within a year or two of landing at Foxtou Airs Honore married, her husband’s father being Mr Abraham Honore, who Avas doing missionary woiik among- the Maoris in the Rangitikei and Afanawatu districts. Mrs Honore accompanied her husband to Fitzherbert, where Air Honore had taken up a bush settlement, and then followed years of pioneering Avork. In 1920 Mr. Honore retired from fanning to livo in retirement in Palmerston North, which, unfortunately, he did not live long to enjoy. Despite the ties of farm life, Airs Honore was a very active Avorker in the W.C.T.U. movement some 20 years ago, while she also took a great interest in church affairs, first as a member of the Presbyterian Church in company Avith her husband, hut of more recent years with the Brethren. She was ever ready tn assist in any way those less fortunately placed than herself and there are many avlio will remember her with gratefulness. For the past six months her health had been somewhat indifferent, hut her end As;as peaceful. There are left to mourn their loss a family of three sons and one daughter, the members being Afessrs H. B. Honoro (Ohau), A. Honore (Tiritea) and D. Honore (Hastings), and Afrs R. Hazelden (Tiritea). There are also six grandchildren. The remains were laid to rest alongside those of her husband in the Palmerston North Cemetery yesterday afternoon.
