IN TIME OF CRISIS.
Speaking at - Ivilmaron Castle, Fife, Sir John Simon, the Foreign Secretary, said he shared the view that the formation of the National Government was of service to the country and that the continuance of the spirit which formed that Government was essential for the progress of Britain. What impressed him as Foreign Secretary was the enormous change which was produced abroad in the minds of the statesmen and peoples of foreign countries at the spectacle of the politically-minded people of Great Britain, who were so well accustomed to conduct their party controversies at elections, sinking their differences and continuing to fight the common • danger and thereby pulling their country out of a mess. What did more to restore the authority of Great Britain in the councils of the world than anything else was the knowledge which foreign statesmen and peoples had that the British showed themselves in the time sense, a united people in a time of crisis.
