M.U. AGAINST TOLLS ON HIGHWAYS.

The attitude of motorists toAvards reinstitution of toll-gates in NeA\ r Zealand, as an outcome of the pressure that is being exerted for a toll bridge at Paremata, near Porirua; Avas discussed at the Motor Union’s conference.
A delegate from the Wellington club, Mr. E. A. Baft, said that a (broader outlook Avas involved than mere district gain. No crosscurrent should be allowed to interfere with the operation of the IlighAvays Act. A return to the conditions of 25 years ago Avould not be tolerated. A resolution Avas carried that the North and South Island Unions are opposed to the reintroduction of toll gates.
