MANAWATU LICENSING COMMITTEE.
The quarterly meeting of the Manawatu Licensing Committee was held in the local Courthouse on Wednesday, presided over by J. Logan Stout, Esq., S.M. Also present were Messrs R. Bryant, J. K. HornbloW, J. Curran and J. Walker. The application for a renewal of the license of the Post Office Hotel, Foxton, held over from the annual meeting, was granted. Constable Owen reported that the hotel had been conducted satisfactorily. The chairman said he hoped the licensee would continue to conduct, the hotel satisfactorily. The licensee, Mr. Shorthouse, in thanking the Bench stated that the previous lapse had been due to the financial depression and increased taxation.
The S.M.: We are all in the same position in' regard to taxation but have to keep within tbe law.
