AUGUST GRADING RETURN,

The grading returns for hemp, tow, stripper tow and stripper slips for the month of August have been issued by the Department of

Two hundred and thirty-three bales at Wellington and 76 at the Bluff were rejected. The number of bales in each grade was as follows, the number for the corresponding period of last year being given in parenthesis:—Fine nil (31), good fair 11 (25), high fair 650 (173), low fair 474 (340), common 225 (125), rejected 309 (10), condemned nil (3), a total of 1669 (bales against 707 bales graded the same period last year, an increase of 962 bales.

The number of bales graded at each port was: —Auckland 1 42, Wellington 998, Foxton 277, Picton 9, Blenheim 42, Bluff 301. Tlie following shows the detailed particulars of the tow graded: — PORTS Ist. 2nd. 3rd. Wellington 2 158 3 Foxton —2 Picton —•— 4 Bluff
