STATE DINNER IN SYDNEY

rPHKSB ABBOCIATTOV.] (Received April 7. 11.55 p.m.) SIDNEY, April 7. There was a brilliant and enthusiastic assemblage at the Town, Hall on the occasion of the State dinner tendered to General Biidwood.

The speakers eulogised General Birdwood's leadership in helping to make the great name that the Australian army had won.

Qeneral Birdwood. in his reply, paid a tribute to the splendid offcers and men under him, • to whom tho honors belonged, <iot to him. He felt like a man riding a bicycle; he sat still and the machine did the rest*.

Later, in the Domain, General Birdwood presented a large number of war decorations.
