It is understood that there is a probability of Mr p. J. W. Griffiths contesting the Mayoralty at the forthcoming election.

An exchange states that Ivir J. _T. Croker. accountant in the Dnnedin office of the New Zealand Loan and. Mercantile Agency (Jompany. will leave that town for Wellington on Wednesday next. Mr Croker has been promoted to a responsible position, in connection with the inspection department at the company's Wellington office. Mr Croker .was for some years in the Blenheim office of the company.

The funeral of the late Mr Frederick Fraser, of Renwicktown, took place to-day. Friends of the deceased gentleman attended in large numbers, including members of the local lodge of Oddfellows, to .pay the last tribute of respect to their late comrade and brother. The late Mr Fraser had been a resident of Marlborough for about 38 years, the greater part of the time in Renwicktown. He was born in Prussia, and on coming to New Zealand he was naturalised and settled in Renwick, where he followed the occupation of shearer, musterer, and general. farm worker. He was well-known in the district, and was universally respected for his upright and unassuming manner of living. He had been aijing for some considerable time until death intc—r~e.d. He leaves a widow and four children-, two daughters and two sons to mourn his los*. He was a brother-in-law of Mr William Tapp, late of Renwick, but row located in Franklin.
