A Dunedin telegram states that at a meeting of the Professorial Board of Otago University last night Mr Montague Ongley, of the Waitaki High School, was nominated as Rhodes Scholar for Otago.

Jermyn, an ex-pupil of the Marlborough, High School, who is now prosecuting his studies at the Auckland University College, has advised Dr Innes that he has kept second year's Terms in three subjects. He will sit for the first section of the B.A. degree this month. On the 17th November (reports the Pelorus Guardian) Mr and Mrs Nees, senior, of Wellington, .parents of Mr C. An old and .respected resident of Blenheim in the person <ii Mr J." J. McCabe died at his residence in Maxwell -Road at 2.45 o'clock this morning, after an illness extending over some weeks. He took to his bed yesterday morning, and after sleeping nearly all day, passed peacefully away this morning. The late Mr McCabe was married in England in 1859, and came out to New .Zealand in 1863, settling at Lincoln, in Canterbury, where he wa9 engaged in teaching school. Twenty-five years ago he came to Blenheim and taught in St. Joseph's school till the Sisters of Mercy took up -the work. The deceased was a honorary member of the Hibernian Society, and a prominent member Jof the Catholic Church. - Hewas always ready to help towards local charities. At the time of his dearth he was 72 years of age. He leaves a widow and two daughters to mourn their "loss.
