WHITE'S BAY.
10 SHE EMTOK
Sir, —For a jperidd , 'of nearly itwenty years I ihave been trying to iget/ something don© by the Public Works Department to improve the track over White's .Bay \hill> but beailg ; the only person wlho: naturally without sttcofessl'^lt has always been a maifcterl of surprise to me .that the inhabitants -of Blenheim ami .of the surrounding district have not long ago endeavored to get White's Bay opened up as a and picnic resort. I trrast flhat ere long they will do so, there being no comparison between White's Bay proper and what is generally .called White.'s. Bay, the latter 'being really the beach at the foot of tihe hills on I the W;airau side. I will quote an \ extract if rom a letter I have lately re- ! ceived <on this subject from the Public Works (Department:—"On looking into the matter I find that the conrstruction iOf the proposed road (over White's ©ay hill) will cost approximately £700. It seems that the principal purpose for which the road is desir&cl iis for the use of picnic '■ parties from Blenheim, in wliicTi case the matter not seem to be of sufficient urgency to justify the proi vision of tlie money." Now, Sir, it ! rests with tike Blenheim folk to say ! whether or not they desire to have a really good place in which to enjoy their well earned holidays.' ■ HENRY J. STAGE.
