THE PICTURES.

At last night's meeting of the Blenheim Borough -Council -a letter was read 1 from "the Messrs Adams Brothers asking. >that, <- in : View of; \. their .coin-. senting spo 'shift' 'their, engine to the north side of the hall, tli,e Council guarantee that it'would not be shifted from the place stipulated. They also asked >to be protected against other picture companies showing in the hall. Councillor White said that he had waited iipon Mr , Adams, and that; gentleman had met him very fairly in the matter. A suitable covering "was to be erected for the engine, and this would be so constructed as to enable it to be removed.when the engine was elsewhere. The committee had dej. cided that the-matter of other picturo companies :being allowed to show pictures should be at the discretion of tho TownCClerk, i , .

Councillor Carr moved, and Councillor Dodson seconded, that the report as submittedby. Councillor White be adopted, Councillor'-Wiffen said he thought that Adams ißros. had only made a reasonable request when they had asked .that .they be indemnified against losses on pictures such as the Arnst-Barry boat race and th© John-son-Jeffries fight, which films had cost them a considerable sum. Councillor Wiffen referred to the, general excellence of the picture^ shown by this fir in,- and -Stated that ctbe Council should protect them.' The Town Hall, through the advent of the Picture Company, had: landed on its feet, and it was for the vCouncil to help those who had helped ;them.
