EARTHQUAKE AT WANGANUI.

WANGANUI. June 14. A sharp shock of earthquake was felt here at 10.20 a.m.

Heavy rain set in early this morning, and continues. There is a prospect of the river rising.

Uain commenced to fall in Blenheim -on Saturday night. There were heavy showers yesterday, and heavier ones to-day, the combined effect of which was to bring the rivers down. At 9 *>'clock this morning the meteorological report- mentioned that they were High, and the succeeding downpour will no Soubt give settlers in the vicinity of the streams cause for anxiety. Nearly every place in the Dominion recorded rain this morning, and the barometer -was very low, touching 29.07 at Nuggets and 29.08 at Bluff. The Blenheim -reading was 29.28. The temperature -varied between 65 at Cape Maria van "Diemen and Gisborne and 38 at Bal•clutha; "locally the register was 54. T3eavy seas were running at Russell, TSast Cape, Castlepoint, Farewell Spit and "Westport, and rough at Raglan, "Kawhia and New Plymouth.
