FIRE IN MAXWELL ROAD.
HOUSE AND FURNITURE
DESTROYED
On Sunday morning at about three o'clock a fire broke out in Mrs Maddock's "house in Upper Maxwell Road, which resulted in the total destruction of the. building. Everything appeared to be safe on the previous evening when Mrs Maddock and her daughter retired, but Mrs Maddock was awakened early in the morning by the sound of falling glass in the dining-room and also by the smell of smoke. On going to inspect, she found the dining-room to be in flames, and she wakened the other members of the family. It was, however, too late to check the fire, and the building and furniture were destroyed. There was practically nothing saved. Mrs Maddock's furniture and effects were insured in the Commercial office for £150, and the piano was insured for £50 in the Northern. Her daughter had her effects insured for £40. The house was owned by Mrs Maddock, and was insured in tlae> Standard office for £180.
