A Press Association telegram from Wellington this afternoon states that the price of flour has been increased by another ten shillings per ton.
On inquiry being made in Auck- " land- with reference to the report from Chrisstchurch that the Defence authorities were compiling a militia list, in view of calling out the first line of men between 18 and 25 years for training, it was elicited (says a Press Association telegram) that no such list is being conipiled in Auckland, but at the direction of the Council of Defence a return is being compiled of the men who served in'-the South African corps, or who have other foreign service and are now serving in the New Zealand forces. There is a possibility of a big oil refining company being promoted in New Plymouth, the capital to be subscribed by the various oil-boring companies and a certain amount offered to the public. The directors of the Taranaki Petroleum Company, in their weekly report, regret that there is verjr little news to report. The chairman of directors, speaking at a meeting; of the New Plymouth Harbour Board on Friday, said he expected to report the bores on cil at any inirntt?.
