FORECAST OF THE RESULTS.

The "New Zealand Times" has lieen collecting information from various parts of the colony with the object of forming a forecast of the results.

The following is the information in regard to the North Island:—" Interest in the licensing election is perhaps less keen in Auckland than in the South so far as ' the great army of moderates ' is concerned, and, speaking generally, a greater share of attention is being paid to the Parliamentary election than to the licensing poll. The only two electorates where No-license is considered to have any serious chance are Grey Lynn and the Bay of Plenty. Grey Lynn has not one hotel within its borders, and the ' trade' is not concerning itself much over the matter. In the Bay of Plenty it is different, and both parties are working hard. Reduction may possibly be carried elsewhere, but in the city it would seem that the continuance vote will again carry the day."

In regard to the South Island, its "Quidnunc" says:—l do not think Dunedin will vote No-license, though, if prohibition leaders are to be believed, it is a foregone conclusion. Still, the prohibitionists will obtain a huge vote. Reduction, however, will assuredly be carried, and that remark applies also to Caversham and Taieri. I expect the prohibitionists to carry Chalmers again, likewise Waikouaiti, Oamaru, Bruce, Mataura, Wallace, Invercargill, Clutha, possibly Awarua and Tuapeka. Mount Ida and the Lakes will assuredly pronounce for continuance."
