Speaking in the Chamber of Deputies the Premier, M. Combes, justified the prohibition of preaching by members of preaching orders which had been suppressed under the "provisions of the Religious Associations Aot.

They were entitled, said the Premier, to secularise and obtain the same rights as other priests, bub seoularisa* tion must be effective and regular.

A radical proposal to separate Chnrch and State was negatived by 278 votes to 247.

A motion of confidence in M. Combes was carried by 313 to 237.
