FEDERAL DEFENCE ESTIMATES.

Sir W. Lyne is submitting the Federal defence estimates, totalling £672,000, less £106,000 from the auxiliary squadron. He stated that be had reduced the naval vote by £26,000 and the military vote by £147,000 compared with the previous year. The redactions are largely made up by the disbanding and reorganising of some of the naval forces, and by the reduction and re-organising of the military partially paid forces. The votes for ■mall arms and ammunition are reduced by £53,000, and that for new rifles by £15,000.
