Palmerston N., September*27. The horse parade held to-day under the auspices of the A. & P. Society was attended by 24 horses. The thoroughbreds were not strongly represented, bat there was a fine show of heavy horses. There was considerable difference of opinion as to the merits of the Government shire horse Danger Signal, many considering him light in bone, while by others he was greatly admired. ' ; i ' . ■

Wellington, September 27. Robert Macilgray, an unemployed clerk, has been arrested with thirtyone tins of uncustomed opium in his possession. At the time of arrest the man was endeavoring to dispose of the opium to a Chinese merchant in Tory Street.

Hokitika, September 27. An incipient flre was discovered shortly after 11 last night in Eastern brook's drapery shop, Revell Street. One room was gutted. The furniture and stock, insured in the Imperial for £150, was damaged by water. The building, insured for £150 in the Victoria, was only slightly injured.
