PELORUS ROADS.

Sift, — The ratepayers of the Pelorus District will not be much pleased with the Road Board balance sheet published m your paper of a recent date. With roads scarcely passable even ou foot, and m places not at all, with rivers unbridged and dangerous fords, they will know how to appreciate the labor of such vigilant guardians of their purses. What a happy state of blissful innocence the members of this Board muse be m. The, late worthy Secretary would have been taken by surprise to find what unbounded and childlike faith the Board had m him, and like the Irishman would be ready to ask "Have your mother any more of ye ?" Somebody must be answerable for this money so foolishly given away. The Board cannot collect the iates|and do what they like with the money. At one time the Pelorus Road Board was a credit to the place. That time is past. The good members are gone without leaving a head behind. I trust there is some one m authority with power and the will to make those who are to blame for the loss of this hundred and thirtythree pounds three half-pence, responsible for it, with the expenses incurred. If Road Boards were made more responsible for sums uselessly frittered away I think there would not be so. many seeking the "honor" of holding the office they are so utterly unfitted to fill.— Yours, &c, A Ratepayer. P.S. — Was there not a similar deficiency m a neighboring Road Boards' accounts a year or two ago ? If so the Pelorus Board could not be ignorant of it which makes the present defect the more culpable.
