LOST FORTUNE.

£30,000 SUNK IN INVESTMENTS. The eredito?-s of Ernest Sandcman, of Cadogan Gardens, Chelsea, met at Bankruptcy Buildings, Carey Street, London, lately, when a statement of the debtor's affairs was submitted, showing liabilities of £21.005, tin* bulk of which was due in respect of money lent, and assets of 30s 8d in cash. Tho Assistant Official Receiver reported that the debtor had stated he had no occupation,. Formerly resident in the Far East, he became a partner in a firm of general merchants. Jn 1890 he came- from Hongkong to England with a capital of £UO,'OOO. For about three years he travelled for pleasure and was tilieu appointed director of various companies. His income from that source never exceeded £SOO per annum, and during the past few years he held no directorships. His capital had gradually dwindled through speculation in unsound 1 investments. and some four years ago lie had rccounse to. money-lenders. Tho debtor ■added that he owed £1(5,000 to his wife. It was decided to leave, the case in the Official Receiver's 'hands.
