A LOSS TO MASTERTON.
TER UN [TEII I'ItKSS ASSOCIATION. MASTERTON, July 21. Last year Dr. Hosking, senr., generously offered tlio sum of £SOO lor the erection of Memorial Women's Baths at Masterton. Tenders were invited, and tho lowest for a bath of reduced size was £578. This tender l)r. Hosking refused to accept, being of opinion that a larger bath could bo erected for the siim available if tlio work wore carried out by the borough staff under tlio borough engineer. Al last night's meeting of the Boroift'i Council a heated discussion took place, and an amendment moved by tlio Mayor that tho donor's wishes be carried out was declared lost. Dr. Hosking now definitely withdraws the oifer, stating that under no circumstances will bo reconsider his decision, but he will cable Home for £SOO worth of radium instead, which lie thinks may serve a more useful purpose. The withdrawn! of flie offer has caused general disappointment in the community.
