The steamer Mangapapa, with mails, passengers and cargo, left Karamea at noon yesterday for Westport. and while steaming up the tortuoiis channel she got oil the South Spit, just inside the entrance, and was stuck. Thcro were about 20 passengers oil board, including several ladies, but they were landed safelv.

The vessel is not ill a dangerous iiosition. being affected merely by a, swell from the sea, and there are no breakers. It is expected that she will be got hack into the channel oil to-day's high tide.
