Waimumu Road Board.
— : .A meeting of the Board was held at Mataura on Thursday, all the members • being present ; Mr Barry in the chair. CORRESPONDENCE. Mr A. R. Hay (St. Ronans) asked the Board to spend £12 on repairs to the road passing through Messrs Hall and Meason's property. — On the motion of Messrs Caithness and Morris, it was agreed to make the expenditure as requested. The County Council wrote intimating that if the Road Board continued to let contracts and incur fresh liabilities it would delay the merging indefinitely. — Letter received. Messrs Kilpatrick and Milne wrote drawing the attention of the Board to the state of the road between sections 13 and 21, block I. — On the .motion of Messrs Morris and Coomer, the inspector was instructed to inspect the road and report at next meeting. A petition, signed fey Messrs Donald Macdonald, Tothill, Watson and Co., A. R. Wallis, Hay, Handysidi?, and others, praying the Board to erect a bridge on the Hedgehope stream near trig, station AA., where at present there is only a ford which is unsafe and at times impassable, was read. Mr A. McDonald } offered a capital site free, ' stipulating that the fence be shifted and re-erected. — On the motion of Messrs Caithness and ' Morris, it was resolved that JE2S be granted, and that the County Council be asked to subsidise £ for £. Another petition from a number of ratepayers prayed the Board to reconsider the resolution passed at the October meeting re spending moneys on roads in outlying parts of the district and reduce the amounts voted by 75 per cent. — On the motion of Messrs Morris and Caithness, the petition was received. The inspector reported that a number of culverts had been washed away by the late floods, also the bridge on Teirace road near Craig's, Mataura subdivision of Edendale estate. He stated he had attended to all the damaged culverts, repaired,- and in some cases replaced them by new ones, excepting three, which be was at present engaged with. He forwarded a sketch plan showing position of road and bridge. — The report was received. GENERAL. , It was resolved that the manager at Edendale be written to and requested to trim the gorse hedges alongside section 37, Mataura subdivision. TENDERS. The following tenders were dealt with : —Contract 114 : M. Martin, 10s per chain ; H. Smith, 7s 5d ; W. Milne, 7s (accepted). Contract 115 : W. Graham, formation gravelling .£3 per chain ; W. Milne, £6 10s and £2 6d (accepted) ; M. Martin, £S 2s and £2 5s ; R. Barclay, 7s per chain and £2 14s. Contract 116 : i W. Graham, £2 10s per yard ; M. Martin, I2s 6d (accepted) ; W. Milne, 2s 4d. FINANCE. The following accounts were passed for payment : — Surfaceman (including labor and material)* £13 2s ; printing, etc., £2 13s 6d. The Board then adjourned.
