Received Jan 5 at 10.5 p.m. London, Jan 5, Mr Gladstone has written a letter to Wm Vernon Hurcourb in reply to a request that lie. should attend a meeting of Liberal Leaders to discuss the Irish question. Mr Gladstone states that he hopes the speech delivered by Mr Chambers lain in December last may lead to the discovery of a modus vivciidi among the Liberals. Ho favored the discussion of the points of difference with a view to arranging action to be taken in Parliament. Mr Gladstone adds that whilst approving the proposed conference he abstains from taking part in the same. It is announced that the Conference will be held on tlio 1 3th inst and will comprise Mr Chamberlain, John Morley, Sir George Tre* velyan, Sir Wm Vernon Hnrcourt and Lord Herschell
