RING ESTATE SOLD

NOT TO BE CUT UP Original Private Farm The first privately-owned property in the Matamata district was sold recently when the well-known Ring estate, at Hinuera, was purchased by Mr. John Gore, of Tuhikaramea, for his son. The estate, which is of 757 acres, will not be cut up, but will be used as a sheep farm. , Possession was given on December, 1, and the Ring family will leave next week for Auckland, where they ■will reside. It is interesting to recall that the late Mr. Ring, who was a wellknown athlete in his younger days, purchased the property exactly - t 56 years ago. At that time the bulk of the land between the Hauraki Gulf and Tokoroa was held by two ,or three companies and there were no privately-held properties. It was 10 years after Mr. Ring took up his property that the railway line was built right through his land. The main road followed and that also went through the Ring Estate. At that period the district was known as Mangawhara. To-day the name is Hinuera and the Ring property, which comprises some of the best land in the district, is quite close to the. station, dairy factory and store. Originally the property consisted of 813 acres. - v Mrs. Ring is the oldest pioneer of the entire Matamata district, having resided continuously on the property since her marriage 56 years ago. The sale of the property by the family thus breaks one of the original links in the Matamata district, for the late tylr. Ring was undoubtedly the original pioneer farmer of the district. The I passing of the property to another name will thus sever to a large degree a name which has been associated with the district for over half a century, and which has always been highly respected. Mr. Guy Ring, a son, farms another property in the Okoroire district.
