Women’s Institutes.

HINUERA Mrs. C. Wilson presided over a good attendance at the November j meeting of the Hinuera Women’s In- | stitute. Four new members were ! welcomed, Mrs. Wright (Okoroire), Mrs. Crookes, Miss Jean Cook and Miss Jean Barron. The president, Mrs. Wilson, presented a comprehensive report on the bi-annual conference held in Matamata, and Mrs. C. Brown reported on the activities of the Drama Circle, j The demonstration for the afternoon was given by Mrs. H. Daniel, of Matamata, and was concerned with the making of soft toys. A successful “bring and buy” stall was held to augment trust Lunds. The monthly points competition

for the best summer dress to be made and worn was won by Miss R. Maffey. Mrs. Sweetman was second, and Mrs. J. Calder and Mrs. F. Toogood tied for third place. There were 11 entries. In the competition for the best fancy loaf (not made of yeast) there were four entries, and Miss C. Brown, Mrs. W. Menzies and Mrs. Churchwood carried off first, second and third prizes respectively. Mrs. Daniel and Mrs. Wright acted as judges. - A musical competition held during the afternoon was won by Miss I. Germann. The hostesses were Mesdames McKernan, Standing, Ingles and R. Maffey. Mrs. Barker presided over the November meeting of the Wardville Women’s Institute which was attended by 33 members. Arrangements were made to entertain the local school children at a Christmas party. A soft toys competition was won by Mrs. 'Carseldine. Mrs. Hughes won a prize for the best sausage rolls; and a written competition was won by Mrs. Gilchrist. A feature of the afternoon was the presence of two members, Misses Franich and D. Gilchrist, who are to be married shortly, as guests of the institute. Mrs. Barker made a presentation to each of a tea waggon as a token from members. Each of the recipients graciously acknowledged the gifts and was accorded musical honours.

The roll-call was “ Hints to the brides,” and proved to be most amusing.

Mr. Ennis, of Morrinsville, demonstrated on an electric sewing machine.

The meeting concluded wjth the National Anthem.
